Tehran: Five Revolutionary Guard personnel were killed in a roadside bomb explosion in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
According to Iranian media, the southeastern Quds headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards’ ground forces said that the explosion occurred when a security forces convoy was passing along a road in the province.
According to the report, security operations have been launched in the area after the explosion, while steps are being taken to identify, pursue and arrest the elements responsible for the attack. The Revolutionary Guards have described the attackers as terrorists, but did not name any organization or group in their statement.
According to Iranian officials, the incident occurred after recent clashes in the area, in which security forces claimed to have killed several armed people. The Turkish news agency also confirmed the roadside bomb explosion and the death of a security officer, citing Iranian officials.
