India has once again started trying to politicize sports. In view of the growing tension between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to withdraw from all tournaments held under the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to isolate Pakistan cricket.
According to a report, the BCCI has formally informed the Asian Cricket Council that India will not participate in the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka next month and the Men’s Asia Cup to be held in September (which India itself was hosting).
One of the main reasons behind this decision of the BCCI is that the current president of the Asian Cricket Council is Mohsin Naqvi, who is not only the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but also the Federal Interior Minister of Pakistan.
A BCCI official told that the Indian team cannot participate in a tournament that is organized under an organization headed by a Pakistani minister. We have verbally informed the ACC about our withdrawal from the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and participation in ACC events in the future is uncertain. We are in constant touch with the Indian government.
This move is being seen as part of India’s policy of trying to isolate Pakistan on international platforms, especially at a time when relations between the two countries remain tense.
