RAWALPINDI – A man impersonating a traffic policeman was arrested in the Ganjmandi area on Wednesday after he was caught extorting money from rickshaw drivers while dressed in the official uniform of the traffic police.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended by Traffic Warden Faisal Bashir. The man, identified as Mohammad Arif, son of Mohammad Sharif, was found wearing a traffic police uniform along with a reflective jacket. A fake police identity card and cash collected from commuters were also recovered from him.
The spokesperson said the suspect had been charging rickshaw drivers between Rs100 and Rs1,200 under the guise of traffic enforcement.
A formal complaint has been lodged at the Ganjmandi police station for legal action against the accused.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam commended the traffic warden for his vigilance and announced a reward in recognition of his action.
The CTO further urged citizens to report complaints of corruption through the online portal or the complaint cell at the Traffic Headquarters.
