Islamabad: The Senate has unanimously passed a bill to provide lifetime blue passports to members of the Senate.
Senator Abdul Qadir presented the Passport Act Amendment Bill, which stated that a retired parliamentarian who has taken an oath as a member of the National Assembly or Senate will be entitled to keep and use the blue passport, regardless of whether he has completed his term or not. The bill proposed that the children of members of parliament should also be given blue passports.
While discussing the bill, Senator Nasir Butt said that those who have retired, are secretaries or judges should have their blue passports canceled.
Senator Abdul Qadir said that the children of grade 22 government officers also get blue passports, so why don’t the children of members of parliament get them?
Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry said that we have opposed giving blue passports to the children of MPs. The government will bring a bill on the blue passports that former secretaries’ children get and their blue passports will be withdrawn.
The rating of green passports is affected by the creation of red and blue passports. When we talk about visa-free entry from another country, they ask how many blue passports do you have? We say that there are 75,000 blue passports, so the matter does not progress.
Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazir Tarar said that the children of MPs have objections to the blue passports, the blue passport is an official status, we will also talk about abolishing the blue passports of the children of government officers who retire, let the children make their own careers, blue passports do not increase respect.
