Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved the Police Act with minor amendments.
According to the Police Act, the services of the IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police can be withdrawn at any time on the directions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in case of misconduct. The Chief Minister will be the head of the Police Policy Board and will have the authority to make appointments and transfers in the police.
Appointments and transfers of police grade 18 and above will be made under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rules of Business 1985; the Chief Minister will have the authority to appoint District Police Officers.
The government’s oversight has been strengthened through the Police Act, the IG will have the authority to appoint heads of police training schools under the Act.
