City of Gold

Archaeologists have discovered a ‘lost city of gold’ buried in the soil in Egypt for 3,000 years. The city of Eton, once a gold mine, has been discovered beneath the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, where excavations were completed this week.

The team of researchers discovered the remains of houses, workshops, administrative buildings, places of worship, and baths in the excavation. The city has yielded artifacts from the Roman period (30 BC to 639 AD) and the Islamic period (642 AD to 1517 AD).

This suggests that the Eton mine remained active for centuries, supplying gold to several Egyptian empires, which the rulers used to adorn their bodies and tombs.
