Al-Eman Hospital in Quetta City has been engulfed in allegations of corruption, mismanagement, and public healthcare infrastructure neglect as the conditions surrounding it are alarming. The hospital was built in collaboration with the governments of Qatar and Balochistan. However, it was ‘mysteriously’ abandoned during the night and along with it, vital equipment and vehicles went missing, including three ambulances and five truck missionaries.
The allegations of robbing and corruption are further fueled by the artifacts of construction work taking place on a government-owned building which was decided without prior notice. Evacuating the hospital and then constructing what is allegedly reported to be a building that contains 20-25 residential plates begs the question of what the government is trying to accomplish. Furthermore, giving auction contracts to property owners increases the doubts about the government’s purpose for invading the public healthcare system.
The situation Quetta is facing from the Balochistan healthcare crisis only gets worse when in the mid of it Al-Eman hospital gets shut with medicine supply to government hospitals suffering for a few months. From this it is clear to see why the silence of the provincial health minister regarding these events is extremely frustrating.
This is absolutely not how the residents of Quetta and Balochistan in general deserve to be treated. I along with everyone else expects the government to conduct a thorough investigation while also taking the necessary steps to hold those responsible to the fullest extent possible while ensuring the infrastructure for public healthcare does not suffer damage.
