Unfortunately, thirteen decomposed bodies have been recovered from an abandoned boat off the coast of the Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Nevis. There is no concrete information about who these bodies belong to or where the boat came from.
According to the Sources of The Inquirer, the shocking discovery was made when a half-sunken fishing boat was found floating in the sea. The boat was brought to shore and an investigation has been launched to determine its origin. This is not the first such incident. Several boats full of bodies have been discovered near Caribbean islands in recent years.
“This was a fishing boat, which is not normally found in the Caribbean,” said Police Commissioner James Sutton. “We cannot say for sure, but we believe that the boat was sailing from the West African coast. This is a new and worrying incident and we need to take urgent measures to prevent further tragedies and ensure the safety of human lives.”
The incident comes just days after five bodies were found in a small boat off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago. However, authorities said there is no apparent connection between the two incidents.
Trinidadian coastguard officials have described the design of the recent boat as similar to a boat found in 2021, in which the bodies of 15 people were found. According to the investigation at the time, the people were likely from Senegal and Mauritania.
