????????????????????????????

If you ever land or take off from the runway at Savannah/Hilton Head Airport in the US state of Georgia, you will see two graves on the runway, belonging to a married couple as Catherine and Richard Dotson are buried under the runway in the US state of Georgia.

The couple is buried on the west side of the airport, on the edge of runways 10 and 28, and the couple has been buried there for more than 140 years, even before Savannah/Hilton Head Airport was built in 1960. actully Dotsons owned the land where the planes now land. The couple were born in 1797 and were happily married for five decades. Catherine died in 1877, while her husband died in 1884.

By family custom at the time, the couple were buried side by side on their land at Cherokee Hill, which is now an airport. When the federal government launched a program to acquire additional land to expand the facilities, the couple’s grandchildren strongly intervened to ensure that the couple’s resting place was not disturbed. So the authorities had no choice but to build the runway right over the graves.

However, the government did place markers on the graves as a sign of respect for the buried couple, which are seen by thousands of travelers every day.
