Tremors from a magnitude 5.1 earthquake shook several areas across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, spreading panic among residents. The earthquake was also felt in Abbottabad, Chakwal, Attock, Nowshera, Swabi, Hazro, and Hassan Abdal.
According to initial reports, the quake had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers and its epicenter was located approximately 15 kilometers from Rawat. Frightened by the sudden jolt, many people rushed out of their homes, reciting the Kalima Tayyaba for protection. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage were reported.
In a related event, another tremor struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at around 2 AM the previous night. Citing figures from Dawn News, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that this earlier quake registered a magnitude of 5.4, with a depth of 102 kilometers and an epicenter in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
Seismic activity has seen a notable rise in recent months, with Karachi alone experiencing over 57 tremors between May and June. Similar occurrences have been reported across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, raising concerns among experts and residents about increasing geological instability in the region.
