The Rawalpindi Development Authority has imposed a complete ban on the sale and purchase of plots and files in the University Town Housing Scheme after serious concerns emerged regarding unauthorized development and poor infrastructure. The decision was taken following a visit by Director General RDA, Kanza Murtaza, who expressed strong displeasure over the ongoing violations and the alarming condition of the housing scheme.

During her visit, the DG noted the deteriorating state of roads, rampant encroachments, and the broken entrance gates that have left residents in distress. Complaints from residents painted a grim picture of daily life in the scheme, including severe water shortages, an abundance of snakes and mosquitoes, open manholes, and an ineffective sewage system.

On her instructions, all development activities within University Town have been banned with immediate effect. Emphasizing that the authority is fully committed to addressing public grievances, Kanza Murtaza directed that land originally allocated for mosques, parks, and schools be released without further delay. She also ordered the removal of encroachments and restoration of the original layout plan of the scheme.

The DG made it clear that legal action is under serious consideration, which may include arrests and disqualification of those responsible for the violations. She further reiterated that all housing schemes will be brought under a proper legal framework to ensure transparency and safeguard the rights of citizens.

This decisive action reflects the RDA’s resolve to curb irregularities in housing societies and to ensure that residents are not left at the mercy of unplanned and illegal development.
