Ameer Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while addressing the National Assembly, pointed to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and said, “The defense agreement is being signed in Iran, a meeting is being held, but the Defense Minister and the Foreign Minister are sitting here in Pakistan; does the Interior Ministry have duties there too?”
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, referring to the presence of Defense Minister Khawaja Asif during his address, raised questions about the negotiations in Tehran and the situation related to the defense agreement.
While addressing the National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that during the long march, PTI leaders contacted him and requested him to play a role in ending the political deadlock, after which he held detailed discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other political leaders to avoid clashes and bloodshed.
According to him, the Prime Minister had asked the PTI to end the long march while the PTI was demanding access to its founder Imran Khan and his medical treatment. Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed that he tried to bring the two sides to an acceptable understanding but was later told by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar that the cabinet did not agree with the proposed procedure.
The JUI-F chief questioned why the sudden extraordinary steps were taken if the government had shown willingness to resolve the issue through talks. He said that political disputes should be resolved through talks and democratic processes instead of using force.
