In a landmark move to protect students’ health, the Punjab Government has imposed an immediate and complete ban on all tobacco and nicotine products, including emerging products such as cigarettes, vapes, heated tobacco products, and nicotine pouches, in all public and private educational institutions across the province.

This significant step highlights the Punjab Government’s commitment to ensuring a safe, tobacco-free learning environment. The initiative was strongly advocated by Chromatic, a leading public health organization, which proactively engaged with the authorities to push for this much-needed reform.

A Zero Tolerance Policy has been enforced to ensure strict compliance, with clear directives for stern action against any violations. This decisive move will help protect students from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine use.

The Punjab Government’s strong stance on this issue sets an example for youth protection, and Chromatic deserves recognition for its persistent efforts in advocating for a healthier, tobacco-free educational environment.

Education Minister Punjab Rana Sikandar Hayat, MPA Amina Hassan Sheikh, and Parliamentary Secretary Sultan Bajwa played a crucial role in supporting and advocating for this initiative under the leadership of CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz. Their dedication to promoting a tobacco-free environment has been instrumental in pushing for stronger policies to protect public health.
