ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continues to hold chairmanship of eight influential Senate committees, underscoring its institutional presence in Parliament, even as several lawmakers have resigned from key committee memberships.

In the Senate, PTI representation is led by Barrister Ali Zafar, who chairs the Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting; Mohsin Aziz, who heads the Standing Committee on Power; Faisal Saleem Rehman, who leads the Standing Committee on Interior; and Humayun Mohmand, who chairs the Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. Aon Abbas Buppi serves as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Industries and Production, Saifullah Abro heads the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, Zeeshan Khanzada leads the Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis, while Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur chairs the Functional Committee on Devolution.

However, the party faces growing political strain as multiple PTI legislators have stepped down from committee memberships. Chief Whip Aamir Dogar confirmed receiving resignations, including those of Faisal Amin Khan from Economic Affairs and National Food Security committees; Muhammad Iqbal Khan Afridi from Housing and Works, Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan, and Inter-Provincial Coordination committees; and Sajid Khan from Overseas Pakistanis, Human Resource Development, National Heritage and Culture, Parliamentary Affairs, and Kashmir committees.

Similarly, Ali Asghar Khan resigned from Planning and Development, Special Initiatives, and Cabinet Secretariat committees; Usama Hamza from Food Security and Federal Education; Sheikh Waqas Akram from Public Accounts and Information and Broadcasting; and Asif Khan from Federal Education, National Heritage and Culture, and Information and Broadcasting committees.

The resignations reflect mounting internal and political pressures within PTI, raising questions about the party’s strategy in Parliament even as it retains strong influence in the Senate through multiple committee chairmanships.
