Polio Teams Left Defenseless as District Officials Hide in Safe Havens

sources within the local police and high-ranking officials in Peshawar have pointed out the reluctance of District Police Officers and Deputy Commissioners in the Southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide adequate security to polio vaccination teams, leaving them vulnerable to ruthless militant attacks.

Districts like Bannu, Karrak, DI Khan, and Tank have become a hotbed of danger as these officials, who are supposed to be safeguarding their citizens, remain holed up in their heavily guarded offices and luxurious residences.

Highly placed sources claim that these DPOs and DCs are using every excuse to avoid the perilous task of overseeing security for the polio teams. They prefer to stay in the safety of urban areas, away from the threat and mayhem of the southern districts, where they could be exposed to militant activity.

This blatant neglect of duty has raised serious concerns among civil administration officials in Peshawar, with some labeling it as misconduct and an act of indiscipline. As a result of their negligent behavior, a senior officer in the administration has warned that these officials will face severe consequences.

In addition to being reassigned to volatile regions like the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), the newly merged districts (NMDs), or even the war-torn Balochistan, they may also face serious disciplinary actions. The officer emphasized that the indifference of the DPOs and DCs toward their responsibilities cannot go unpunished, especially when the lives of innocent polio workers are at stake.
