A Pakistan Army officer has adopted a newborn baby girl who was rescued after being buried alive in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Cases of abandoned children are common in Pakistan, where poverty, social pressure, gender discrimination, and society’s reaction to having a child out of wedlock force people to take such desperate measures. In Pakistan, the charity Edhi has said that people should hand over children to it instead of harming them.

According to reports, ‘This unfortunate incident took place in Nowshera where a newborn girl was buried alive, however, after the timely action of Rescue 1122, the girl was saved and taken to the hospital. ‘The report said that ‘When Major Waqas, an officer doing an army course in Risalpur, came to know about this incident, he went to the hospital to see the girl. After completing the legal proceedings, he adopted the girl. ‘The report did not say who buried the girl alive and how the authorities came to know about this matter. The case is being discussed on social media and people are praising the action of the officer who adopted the girl.
