OGDC starts gas and condensate production from the Buttersim East-1 well in Khairpur district of Sindh.

Islamabad: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has started gas and condensate production from Buttersim East-1 well located in Khairpur district of Sindh. This development is a major step towards converting new oil and gas discoveries into production. Buttersim East-1 well is currently producing 7 million cubic feet of gas and 200 barrels of condensate per day. This production is being obtained from basalt sands. Production is expected to gradually increase as the gas flow from the well stabilizes.

According to details, OGDC had announced the discovery of gas and condensate from Buttersim East-1 in the meso and basal sands of the Lower Goro Formation on October 1, 2025. To start production soon after the discovery, OGDC used its resources to lay a pipeline of about 28 km long and 8 inches in diameter to connect the well to the Sinjhoro plant for processing. The gas obtained after processing is now being supplied to the network of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL), which will increase Pakistan’s domestic gas supply.

OGDC is the operator of the Buttersim Exploration License, in which it holds a 77.5% stake, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds a 22.5% stake in the joint venture. The commencement of production from Buttersim East-1 reflects OGDC’s commitment to convert discoveries into production, increase oil and gas supply in the country and strengthen Pakistan’s energy security.
