The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is taking a significant step towards introducing modern and environmentally friendly transportation in Islamabad. Under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, a meeting was held to discuss the operation of electric trams and feeder buses in the federal capital.

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide efficient public transport to the citizens of Islamabad while reducing air pollution and dependence on fossil fuels. The CDA Chairman emphasized that providing modern and best transport facilities to Islamabad is the top priority of CDA.

The CDA Chairman directed that the feasibility study of the tram system be finalized to ensure the provision of modern bus facilities on the busiest routes of the city. The tram coaches will consist of different compartments to accommodate a maximum number of passengers, including the disabled and women. A complete feasibility report of the project will be prepared, especially the financial costs, and a financial model will be developed to ensure long-term self-sufficiency.

The selection of bus routes for electric feeder buses will be based on data, prioritizing areas with the highest daily passenger traffic. All bus terminals will be equipped with modern technology, featuring digital screens for advertisements, timetables, and safety instructions. The CDA Chairman emphasized reducing subsidy dependence while maintaining service quality and exploring alternative sources of income, such as advertisements and smart ticketing systems.

The introduction of electric trams and feeder buses will reduce air pollution and dependence on fossil fuels, making Islamabad a cleaner and more sustainable city. The project will provide efficient and modern public transport facilities to citizens, enhancing their quality of life. It will also generate revenue through advertisements and smart ticketing systems, reducing the financial burden on the CDA.

The CDA’s initiative is a significant step towards making Islamabad a modern, clean, and attractive capital. With a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and revenue generation, this project is expected to benefit citizens and enhance the city’s reputation as a hub of modern transportation. By reducing subsidy dependence while maintaining service quality, the CDA aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.

Overall, the CDA’s efforts to introduce electric trams and feeder buses in Islamabad will have a positive impact on the city’s environment, economy, and citizens’ quality of life. The project’s success will depend on effective planning, execution, and management, but the potential benefits make it an exciting and worthwhile initiative.
