Many WhatsApp users in Saudi Arabia have reported that the app’s voice and video calling features have been reactivated after years of restrictions. The sudden activation has raised questions, especially at a time when there was no prior announcement from the authorities. Moreover, there has been no official confirmation on whether this is a permanent or temporary move.

Abdullah Al-Subai, a technology expert in Saudi Arabia, said that the move is in line with Saudi Arabia’s efforts to promote telecommunications and digital infrastructure and will likely improve communication for users. It should be noted that WhatsApp, the world’s most widely used messaging app, introduced voice calls in 2015 and video calls in 2016, and these features were banned in Saudi Arabia in 2019.

However, these features were blocked due to regulatory policies in Saudi Arabia.
