Qamar Zaman, a government driver, has been sentenced to 37 years of rigorous imprisonment for defrauding citizens by promising them government jobs in exchange for large sums of money. The Special Judge Central Rawalpindi, Abdul Rehman Arif, announced the verdict after finding conclusive evidence against Zaman.
In addition to the prison sentence, Zaman has been fined Rs 2 million and ordered to pay Rs 3.74 million in compensation to the affected citizens. If he fails to pay the fine and compensation, he will face an additional two years of imprisonment.
Zaman had extorted over Rs 4.66 million from citizens by promising them government jobs, abusing his position as a government driver. The Federal Investigation Agency’s Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad successfully investigated and prosecuted the case, bringing Zaman to justice.
