FRANCE MATTERS: Protests against inflation have surged again.

A new series of protests against inflation and a decline in purchasing power has begun in France.

Security has been tightened across France in view of the situation, and 70,000 police officers have been deployed. Authorities fear that looting and vandalism may recur during the riots that took place last week.

Protests have been banned in various cities due to violent protests and looting last week. Police fired tear gas to disperse protesters despite the ban in Lyon.

According to the French Interior Minister, police seized various types of weapons and arrested 135 people during the new protests on Saturday.

More than 700 protests have been announced across the country by the Yellow Vests movement, labor organizations and students. In Marseille, the ban was lifted and labor organizations were allowed to rally, while demonstrations will also be held in Strasbourg, but restrictions remain in place in several cities, including Nancy, Metz, Biarritz, Belfort, Rouen, Le Havre, Toulon and Limoges.

Several people, including police officers, were injured during violent protests last week, and more than 3,000 shops were damaged and looted.
