Acting on the directives of Director General FIA Rifat Mukhtar Raja, the Federal Investigation Agency has launched a series of operations targeting networks involved in illegal currency exchange and the Hawala Hundi system. These operations are part of a broader national effort to curb illicit financial activities undermining Pakistan’s economy.
FIA’s Peshawar Zone has arrested four individuals allegedly involved in these illegal financial operations. The arrested suspects have been identified as Sher Ali Afghani, Naveed, Bahar Gul, and Tufail. Raids were conducted in Board Bazaar, Peshawar, and various locations in the Khyber District.
During the raids, a total of 1.391 million Pakistani rupees were recovered from the accused. Additionally, a significant amount of foreign currency was also seized, including:
- 50,000 Indonesian Rupiah
- 15,000 Japanese Yen
- 10,515 Saudi Riyals
- 2,000 Afghanis
- 755 US Dollars
- 650 Turkish Lira
- 350 Euros
- 270 Emirati Dirhams
FIA also recovered mobile phones and other materials believed to be connected to Hawala Hundi transactions. The accused were unable to provide satisfactory explanations for the possession of such large amounts of mixed currency.
The suspects have been taken into custody, and formal investigations have been initiated to trace the broader network involved. FIA officials have stated that further arrests are likely as the probe continues into illegal money transfer channels operating in the region.
