Constitutional Bench: Hearing of contempt of court case against Imran Khan postponed indefinitely.

The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of the Long March contempt of court case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan indefinitely. The court also questioned the appearance of Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman.

According to Sources of the INQUIRER, a five-member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan of the Supreme Court heard the government’s contempt of court petition against Imran Khan. During the hearing, the court questioned the appearance of Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman.

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel remarked that according to the law, the Attorney General should be the prosecutor after the proceeding of the contempt case. The Additional Attorney General took the stand that the services of senior lawyer Salman Aslam Butt have been engaged in this case but he is not available today.

Justice Jamal Mandokhel remarked that in a contempt of court case, the job of the petitioner is only to provide information, and after this job of Governmnat is over.

The court adjourned the hearing indefinitely due to Salman Aslam Butt’s non-appearance. It should be noted that the government had filed a contempt of court petition against Imran Khan in June 2022 for bringing the long march 4 kilometers ahead of the scheduled location to Jinnah Avenue.
