An anonymous letter exposing massive corruption scandal in the valuable pink salt reserves. According to the letter an unknown person requested CM Punjab and the Army Chief to take action against the mega corruption scandal.

According to the letter, an anonymous person said that Pink Himalayan Salt is not only an invaluable asset for the country’s economy but are also sold at very high prices worldwide due to its high quality and unique properties. Unfortunately, during the previous governments, the national exchequer suffered a loss of trillions of rupees due to corruption, nepotism, and illegal allotments.

A story of illegal allotments:

During the previous governments in Punjab, especially under Usman Buzdar and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi:

  1. 56 salt licenses were allotted to specific individuals and companies without any transparency.
  2. Under these allotments, about 250,000 acres of valuable land were allotted at nominal prices.
  3. 20,000 acres of land were given to 4 of these companies, while the remaining area was distributed among other companies.
  4. As a result of this process, the national exchequer suffered a loss of billions of rupees, because, in 2021, 500 acres of land were auctioned for Rs. 2.5 billion. If these 250,000 acres had been sold through a transparent auction, the government could have earned trillions of rupees instead of this chunk.

An anonymous person further said in his letter that the former Secretary of Minerals, Mr. Babar Aman Sahib, had suspended all these illegal licenses and issued an order for open auction (transparent auction). but due to Influential figures, Babar Aman Sahib transferred under pressure and the action on the decision has stopped. The new Secretary of Mines, Pervaiz Iqbal Sahib, right after his appointment started the process of restoring the suspended licenses. Several companies have secretly created hundreds of acres of blocks and started giving them to different people on contract for huge sums, which is not only illegal but is also causing further damage to the government’s revenue.

This move not only challenged the government’s writ but was also tantamount to leaving the national resources completely at the mercy of a few influential people. If immediate notice of this situation is not taken, this illegal business will spread widely and it will be impossible for the government to regain control over these resources.
