The China-Pakistan Study Center (CPSC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) in collaboration with China Media Group (CMG) organized a seminar titled “China in Spring: China Opportunity Shared by the World.” The event highlighted two recently concluded sessions on China, which charted the path of the country’s governance, economic development, and global engagement.
DG ISSI Ambassador Sohail Mahmood welcomed the dignitaries to the seminar, organized by ISSI and China Media Group in the presence of Ambassador Jiang Zedong. He highlighted the importance of China’s ‘Two Sessions’, especially in shaping economic policies, advancing high-tech industries and setting a GDP growth target of 5% for 2025.
He noted Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s affirmation of China’s commitment to global stability, emphasizing China’s proactive role, global role through GDI, GCI and GSI. Stressing the strength of Pakistan-China strategic relations, he stressed the transformative role of CPEC and new initiatives to enhance trade, job creation and regional connectivity.
While acknowledging the security challenges and evolving regional dynamics, he reiterated the resilience and unwavering resolve of both countries to overcome the challenges.
Ambassador Sohail Mahmood emphasized the role of media and think tanks in promoting informed dialogue, dispelling misunderstandings, and strengthening mutual understanding in the evolving geopolitical landscape.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Masood Khan highlighted the enduring strength of Pak-China relations, emphasizing their strategic, economic and defense cooperation. He called for CPEC to go beyond infrastructure to include people-to-people exchanges and social development.
He acknowledged China’s unprecedented growth and global rise and its role in promoting global economic cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative. Addressing regional security, he emphasized Pakistan’s ongoing fight against terrorism and called for greater understanding and cooperation with China.
He stressed the need to shape the narrative in a positive manner and strengthen bilateral relations through strategic engagements.
The chief guest of the event, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zedong, highlighted the enduring China-Pakistan friendship and called for expanding mutual respect and cooperation. He stressed China’s economic resilience, investment of $3.6 trillion in tech-driven innovation and green projects.
He affirmed Pakistan’s role in China’s strategic initiatives, especially CPEC and space cooperation. Emphasizing China’s leadership in poverty alleviation, job creation and skill development, he also highlighted China’s diplomatic vision to promote global peace and security.
He urged China and Pakistan to work together as key partners in modernization, economic development and international stability. He highlighted the key points of the two meetings, as well as China’s diplomatic achievements in recent years and its future vision in upholding justice and fairness and supporting peace and stability.
Ambassador Naghmana Hashmi highlighted China’s commitment to people-centered development, sustainable and peaceful growth, and strengthening regional and global cooperation. She stressed the world’s growing recognition of China’s positive influence, in contrast to the growing defensive concerns in some Western countries.
She also stressed the importance of seeking new approaches to global challenges in light of China’s continued economic and technological development, as advocated by international leaders.
Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi highlighted China’s ‘Two Sessions’ as an important platform for policy consultation, emphasizing China’s economic resilience, technological progress, and global partnership despite challenges.
He praised China’s historic progress, commitment to shared global responsibility, opposition to unilateralism, and commitment to promoting a stable, hierarchical, peaceful global order.
Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan emphasized the importance of regional connectivity, trade, and infrastructure development within the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), highlighting its role in economic development and international cooperation.
Earlier in the remarks, Dr. Talat Shabbir, Director, China Pakistan Study Center, highlighted the importance of the two China sessions in shaping the country’s economic and governance policies, emphasizing their global impact.
He stressed the opportunities these developments hold for Pakistan, especially in enhancing economic cooperation through CPEC.
The event was attended by diplomats, scholars, policy practitioners, and media experts, reflecting a broad interest and engagement in the discussions.
