Tokyo: Cybersecurity experts have revealed that Israeli ad tech company Discover Tech was allegedly targeting users of Elon Musk’s SpaceX satellite internet service Starlink with digital ads to track and monitor users’ locations.
According to researchers at the Tokyo-based cybersecurity company, Discover Tech was among the companies bidding the highest for ads shown to Starlink users in more than 100 countries, including some where Starlink is banned or severely restricted.
According to the report, the bidding system for digital ads can access internet data related to users, which can be combined with other available data to track users’ identity, location, and online activities.
After the investigation came to light, Google, Comcast and other companies have announced the removal of Discover Tech from their advertising platforms, while some American and international organizations have also launched investigations over concerns that their employees may be targeted
