Pakistani-born heart surgeon Dr Asif Hassan has been awarded the Pride of Britain Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr Asif Hassan was given the honour in recognition of his 35 years of service to the field of pediatric heart treatment and surgery in the UK.
The sudden arrival of recovered patients at the ceremony to honour him made the atmosphere emotional.
Dr Asif Hassan has performed more than 4,000 pediatric heart operations and nearly 400 heart transplants in his long career.
