The construction of a model jail in Islamabad’s Sector H-16, pending for 14 years, has been accelerated under the supervision of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. During his visit, accompanied by Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, Naqvi reviewed the progress and directed that work be completed within the stipulated time.

Two barracks have been completed, and check posts and a central watch tower are nearing completion. The first phase of the project, with a capacity for 1500 prisoners, is set to be completed this year. The Interior Minister directed the construction of two additional barracks within 90 days. A 34-bed hospital and main kitchen are also part of the project, with instructions to complete them as soon as possible.

The model jail project began in 2011 but was stalled for many years. The Interior Minister has now set a deadline for completion and emphasized the need for round-the-clock work to meet the target. He also directed the DIG Islamabad Police to submit a plan for staff deployment in the model jail. Federal Secretary Interior, DIG Islamabad Police, ADCG, CDA officials, contractors, and consultants were also present during the visit.
