Imagine, instead of a car, bus, or motorbike, you fly to the office daily! Is it possible? This seemingly impossible routine is the reality of Rachel Kor, who happily adopts it and maintains the best balance between her home and professional life.
Rachel Kor, who works as an assistant manager of finance operations at Malaysian airline AirAsia, flies 700 kilometers every day for five days a week to reach the office and then returns to her children in the evening. Surprisingly, this unconventional journey not only saves time but also proves to be financially beneficial!
Rachel Kor used to live in a rented house in Kuala Lumpur near her office and could only return to her home in Penang on weekends. But the distance from her children constantly made her restless, and as a mother, she could no longer bear this sacrifice. In early 2024, she made a big decision: to fly to the office every day instead of renting!
This decision was not only practical for her but also financially beneficial. Previously, she was spending $474 (INR 41,000) per month on rent and other expenses, while now her travel expenses are $316 (INR 27,000) per month, a clear saving!
Rachel’s Daily Schedule – An Unbelievable But Possible Routine
Wakes up at 4 am
Leaves home at 5 am
Leaves flight to Kuala Lumpur at 6:30 am
Reach office at 7:45 pm
Completes work in the evening and returns home by 8 pm
Despite being so busy every day, she manages to spend time with her children, because according to her, ‘at this age, it is very important for children to have their mother close. ‘Obviously, waking up so early every day is difficult and tiring, but as soon as she reaches home and sees her children, all her tiredness disappears.
Rachel also admitted that she prefers working in the office rather than ‘working from home’ because working with colleagues proves to be more effective. She says, ‘Being surrounded by people makes it easier to work, you can talk face to face and understand things better. ‘Rather than finding the daily flight boring, Rachel considers it her special time. She listens to music, enjoys the natural scenery, and refreshes herself mentally.
