Pakistan Television (PTV) is in a financial crisis, racking up losses estimated to be 9 to 10 billion rupees due to systemic irregularities and corruption in the organization. The national institution has been brutally drained and at the edge of collapse.

The crisis was compounded by the great delay in the payment of salaries to employees; some pensioners had been waiting up to two years to receive payments. Political and non-mandatory appointments have made it worse for the financially troubled organization by draining its main resources.

PTV’s Finance department blamed the salary payment crisis on the financial downfall, while the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Atta Tarar, pledged stern action against those guilty of corruption and mismanagement.

The PTV employees were scandalized and expressed their anxiety over the imminent closure of the organization and sent a detailed letter regarding their problems to the Federal Minister, seeking action against those responsible for the crisis.
