Convener of Awam-e-Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and senior leader Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan have strongly condemned the FIA issuing summon notice to senior journalists Mr. Mohsin Raza and Shamshad Mangat.
Pakistan Television officers and senior officials of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting have objected to their questions about corruption. The job of journalists is to review the efficiency of the government and to point out the abuse of power, irregularities, or violations of the law.
The government should investigate these matters instead of suppressing the freedom of journalists. Such retaliatory measures are part of any democratic society and are unacceptable.
Awam-e-Pakistan demands Pakistan Television to withdraw this notice immediately and apologize to senior journalists Mohsin Raza and Shamshad Mangat. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan cautioned the government to respect the constitutional limits and refrain from retaliatory actions against journalists. Freedom of expression is a basic human right that cannot be restricted in any situation.
