ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday notified the appointment of Sahibzada Hassan Raza as the acting chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) following the disqualification of Sahibzada Hamid Raza.
According to the notification, Sahibzada Hassan Raza will serve as the party’s acting chairman until intra-party by-elections are held. The decision was taken in line with the provisions of the SIC’s constitution, the ECP said.
The commission stated that Sahibzada Hamid Raza was disqualified after being sentenced by an anti-terrorism court in Faisalabad. Consequently, his position as party chief was declared vacant, prompting the appointment of an interim leader.
The ECP emphasized that the move ensures continuity in the party’s leadership structure until the SIC elects a new chairman through its internal electoral process.
