Lahore – The Punjab government has imposed an immediate ban on the use of wheat in feed mills across the province under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898, in a bid to ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat, flour, and roti to the public.
According to an official order issued by the Home Department on September 4, 2025, the decision follows a report by the Price Control and Commodities Management Department which revealed that feed mills in Punjab currently hold over 104,000 metric tons of wheat stock intended for poultry feed production. Authorities stressed that wheat, being the staple food of the population, must be reserved for flour mills to meet human consumption needs.
The ban, effective immediately, prohibits feed millers from using wheat for poultry feed production. Instead, the grain will be directed exclusively to flour mills for grinding into flour. The Home Department noted that the measure was taken in the larger public interest to prevent shortages and stabilize supply amid growing demand pressures.
The order will remain in force for 30 days, unless withdrawn earlier.
This move comes as part of a broader government effort to maintain price stability and ensure availability of essential commodities, with officials warning that strict action will be taken against violations of the directive.
