Senior constables serving in the police force are once again questioning the department’s promotion policies. The officers, who were recruited in July 2007 and passed the B-list exam regularly in 2012, have been waiting for their promotion for the past 18 years. They say they are being continuously ignored due to the department’s poor policies and arbitrary decisions.
The affected officers claim that they were waiting for the C-1 List (lower course) to be conducted from 2012 to 2019 and are finally waiting for promotion after completing the course in 2019. “Whenever the department held promotions, we were ignored and people who were neither close to us in seniority nor had passed the exams were promoted,”
The officials pointed out another unfair policy, saying that several seats in the lower course have been reserved for wireless staff, even though no officer from the wireless wing has qualified for this course nor is there any such course currently under training. In this situation, those officers who have passed the lower course and have been waiting for promotion for years should be promoted to these specific seats.
Furthermore, the officials say that under the new SOPs, even those who were recruited many years after them were promoted, simply on the basis that they were working in specific departments. While under the C2 quota, preference was also given to officers who had not even appeared for any exam in their entire service.
This situation is raising serious questions about the merit and justice system in the police department. The victims have demanded that the higher authorities should reform the promotion policies and give their due rights to those officials who passed the exams years ago and are counting their days only in the hope of justice.
