Islamabad/New York – Prime Minister Of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif is set to meet United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday, September 23, alongside leaders from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and Egypt.
The meeting, initiated at President Trump’s invitation, will bring together heads of several Islamic nations to discuss global and regional issues, with Palestine expected to feature prominently.
According to the official schedule, Prime Minister Sharif will address the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, September 26. His speech will follow that of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
During his stay in New York, the Prime Minister is expected to attend multiple high-level meetings and events. On Monday, he is likely to participate in a conference on the two-state solution for Palestine. On Tuesday, he will join the UN Secretary General’s reception for visiting leaders and hold bilateral meetings with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, Qatar’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Prime Minister Sharif will also attend an international development summit chaired by the Chinese Premier, as well as a reception hosted by President Trump for world leaders. He may also take part in a UN Security Council briefing on the situation in Palestine.
On Wednesday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet philanthropist Bill Gates and attend the UN Secretary General’s climate change session, followed by a debate on Artificial Intelligence hosted by the South Korean President. On Thursday, he will participate in the 30th anniversary celebrations of the global youth programme.
Diplomatic sources indicate that Prime Minister Sharif could also meet the Chinese, Italian, and Canadian premiers, as well as the Iranian President, Emir of Qatar, EU leadership, World Bank President, and IMF Managing Director — though these engagements are yet to be formally confirmed.
