Anees Iqbal, a resident of Peshawar, has been convicted and sentenced by the Drug Court of Rawalpindi Division, headed by Judge Muhammad Faisal Butt, along with members Dr. Azhar Ali Haider and Shahid Zafar. The court found him guilty in Judicial Case No. 3908/DC/RWP/19, filed by the Inspector of Drugs, Potohar Town, Rawalpindi. He was charged under multiple provisions of the Drugs Act, 1976, for serious violations including the sale and stocking of unregistered drugs, as well as for keeping and selling drugs without a valid drug sale license and warranty.
Under Section 23(1)(a)(vii) of the Drugs Act, punishable by Section 27(1), the accused was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of forty million rupees. In the event of non-payment of this fine, he will face an additional sentence of eighteen months of simple imprisonment. Furthermore, he was also convicted under Sections 23(1)(c) and 23(1)(i), punishable by Section 27(4) of the same Act, and was handed a sentence of three years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of five hundred thousand rupees. If he fails to pay this fine, another six months of simple imprisonment will be added to his term.
The court has issued a warrant of commitment authorizing the Superintendent of Central Jail, Adyala, Rawalpindi, to take Anees Iqbal into custody for the execution of his sentence. He will remain in jail unless a further order is issued by the Drug Court or the Honorable High Court. The warrant, signed and sealed on June 30, 2025, reflects the judiciary’s strong stance against drug law violations, signaling a stern warning to those involved in the illegal drug trade.
