OGDCL announces increase in oil production from Kunar Oil Field 1160 barrels per day increase in oil production from Kunar Oil Field located in Hyderabad District of Sindh Province.

Islamabad, January 23, 2025: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) on Thursday announced a significant increase in oil production from Kunar Oil Field located in Hyderabad District of Sindh Province. The company’s efforts to improve production have resulted in an increase of 1,160 barrels per day of oil from two key wells, Kunar-12 and Kunar-6.

After re-evaluating the production capacity of Kunar-12 well, OGDCL replaced the conventional jet pump with an electrical submersible pump (ESP). Through these measures, the well’s production increased from 1,060 to 1,820 barrels per day, an increase of 760 barrels per day. The well is part of OGDCL’s Kunar Oilfield, which includes 100% working interest in the Kunar Mining Lease Area.

OGDCL also announced the successful reactivation of the Kunar-6 well. The Kunar-6 well, which was previously shut down due to high water production, has been successfully reactivated following a comprehensive project. Its performance has been improved as a result of several rigless interventions in the Lower Goro Upper Sand along with re-completion using Artificial Lift System (ESP). Kunar-6 is producing 400 barrels of oil per day.

As a result of these measures, the Kunar oilfield is achieving an additional production of 1,160 barrels per day. This move highlights OGDCL’s technical expertise, innovative strategies and commitment to maximizing production from its resources. OGDCL is committed to playing a key role in the country’s energy security.
