The Greater Israel map, which has sparked outrage across the Middle East, with accusations that it crosses the line of international law, was shared by the Israeli government on its Arabic-language Instagram account. Amid a frenzy of explosion in the Arab world, the map shows parts of the occupied Palestinian territories and adjacent Arab lands as belonging to Israel.
Countries represented in the Map:
–Jordan: A large portion of Jordan is shown on the map, and the Jordanian foreign ministry condemned this in the “strongest of terms”.
–Lebanon: Divisions have arisen because certain parts of Lebanon have also been named, drawing condemnation from Lebanese officials.
–Syria: Certain territorial claims are disputed by the Syrian government, who attempted to condemn the map.
–Egypt: Egyptian officials have condemned the map because certain portions depict parts of Egyptian territory as belonging to Israel.
–Palestinian territories: Portions of these occupied territories are included within the prototype, and leaders of the Palestinians are outraged by them.
Some regard about the map’s release as a provocation, and it has been suggested that circumstances surrounding peace negotiations may be further complicated. The Arab League has warned that such provocation feeds extremism; Hamas has called for a consolidated Arab and Muslim response to counteract Israel’s expansionism.
