NADRA has announced the closure of the CNIC service in post offices across the country, the decision was taken due to low usage of the service and lack of public awareness.
According to details, the National Database and Registration Authority has closed the facility providing CNIC related services in General Post Offices (GPOs) across the country.
NADRA had taken this step three years ago to facilitate access of key services to the public, which included renewal of National CNIC, address update and changes in marital status among other facilities.
For this purpose, NADRA had set up dedicated counters in GPOs of major cities including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad Quetta under a 10-year agreement with Pakistan Post.
Despite the provision of services and successfully reducing rush at NADRA’s main service centers, the initiative failed to gain significant traction, with officials attributing the limited reach of the program to insufficient public awareness.
With the announcement of the termination of the service, NADRA has directed all staff deployed in GPOs to return the equipment and collected service fees. This decision has affected about 83 counters in all four provinces and Azad Kashmir.
