ISLAMABAD: In an unusual development, a prisoner serving a 25-year sentence for murder has filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court (IHC), demanding the same privileges and facilities granted to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
The petitioner, Muhammad Irfan, who is serving his sentence under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), alleged that the jail administration was extending preferential treatment to Imran Khan while denying similar amenities to other inmates.
“The facilities being provided to Imran Khan are being withheld from me, even though all prisoners are equal before the law,” the petition stated. Irfan requested the court to direct jail authorities to ensure equal treatment and facilities for all prisoners, regardless of their political or social status.
Sources said the Islamabad High Court is likely to take up the matter in the coming days. When contacted, Adiala Jail officials declined to comment on the petition, saying they would present their response before the court.
The case has drawn attention to the disparities in the treatment of high-profile prisoners and the broader debate on prison reforms and equality before the law in Pakistan’s penal system.
