As a part of the ongoing crackdown against the suppliers of rotten food, the Islamabad Food Authority has recently been conducting operations against poor-quality meat delivery supply vehicles. A total of 165 kg of unhealthy meat was destroyed, and a case was registered against the supplier with a Rs 50,000 fine imposed.
The meat was stored in the supplier vehicle in contravention of rules, and required records, seals, and traceability were missing, said Deputy Director Dr. Tahira Siddique. The meat was also enveloped in a non-food-grade sheet while the weighing was done inside the truck, and upon a detailed inspection, it was found to be unfit for human consumption by the veterinary expert.
According to the authorities, the use of low-grade and decayed meat in food has a dangerous effect on the stomach, liver, and intestines. The authorities, therefore, recommended that the people do not buy meat, which will be going bad, and always check what they buy.
