In a major operation conducted by the Islamabad Food Authority, 25 maunds of donkey meat were recovered from the Tarnol area, raising serious concerns about food safety in the federal capital. The operation follows similar incidents in Lahore, highlighting a disturbing trend of illegal meat distribution in urban centers.
During the raid, more than fifty donkeys and a substantial quantity of meat were seized. Deputy Director of the Islamabad Food Authority, Dr. Tahira Siddique, personally supervised the operation on-site. The Director of the Food Authority has ordered the immediate registration of a criminal case against those involved in this illegal activity.
As part of the follow-up actions, the Food Authority team began the process of destroying the recovered meat to prevent it from entering the market. A foreign national found at the location was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Authorities are currently investigating the areas where the meat may have been supplied and whether it was intended for consumption by foreign citizens. The Islamabad Food Authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring the provision of safe and hygienic food for the residents of the city and stated that operations of this kind will continue around the clock.
