Iran has expressed solidarity with Pakistan in the wake of the recent torrential floods that have caused widespread devastation across parts of the country. In a telephone conversation with Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi, Iran’s Interior Minister H.E. Eskandar Momeni extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, while assuring Tehran’s readiness to provide any form of assistance needed by Pakistan in this hour of difficulty.

The Iranian minister said Pakistan and Iran are bound by historic, religious, and cultural ties that transcend politics, emphasizing that “Iran stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its brotherly nation.” He reaffirmed that Tehran views Pakistan’s challenges as its own, recalling the tradition of mutual cooperation whenever either side has faced natural calamities or external pressures.

This latest gesture comes only months after Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi’s landmark visit to Pakistan earlier this year, where he held extensive talks with the country’s leadership to expand trade, energy, and security cooperation. The visit was widely seen as a fresh step in cementing bilateral relations that trace back to 1947, when Iran became the first country to recognize Pakistan after independence.

Iran has a long record of standing by Pakistan in times of crisis. During the catastrophic floods of 2010, Tehran dispatched humanitarian relief, including food, tents, and medicine for the displaced, along with medical teams to assist on the ground. A similar spirit of solidarity was shown during the 2022 floods, when Iran once again provided relief consignments and reiterated its commitment to helping Pakistan overcome its humanitarian challenges.

Equally, Pakistan has not hesitated to extend support to its neighbour in difficult times. Islamabad was among the first to send relief goods and medical assistance when Iran was struck by devastating earthquakes in Bam (2003) and Kermanshah (2017). Pakistan has also consistently voiced opposition to unilateral sanctions on Iran, calling for dialogue and cooperation instead of isolation, and has supported Tehran’s right to peaceful economic and energy development.

Observers note that the latest expression of sympathy reflects the enduring spirit of brotherhood that characterizes Iran-Pakistan relations. With humanitarian needs mounting due to the fresh floods, officials believe Tehran’s renewed offer of assistance will not only provide much-needed relief but also further strengthen people-to-people bonds across the shared border.
