Indian-American astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore went on a space mission for just eight days last year, but due to a technical problem, they were stuck in space for 9 months. Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who were sent to the International Space Station by NASA, are now returning to Earth after almost 9 months.

The two astronauts are expected to return to Earth on or around March 19 aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. While many other aspects of the mission are in the spotlight, one of the most important is how much the astronauts, who will spend nine months in space instead of eight days, will receive in return for their services.

According to retired NASA astronaut Cady Coleman, astronauts working at NASA are not paid overtime. Because NASA employees are considered regular federal employees and federal employees are not paid overtime. The time spent by astronauts in space is counted as any regular work trip on Earth. They receive their regular salary, but NASA covers their food and accommodation costs on the ISS.

According to Ms. Coleman, astronauts receive a daily stipend of four dollars a day, and this is the additional compensation.

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have been placed in the GS-15 pay grade, the highest level for federal employees under the US system under the General Schedule System. The annual base salary of GS-15 government employees ranges from $125,133 to $162,672.
