Islamabad: The Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) has released the annual review report of the 16th National Assembly.
According to the PILDAT report, there was less debate and faster legislation in a year, but due to the rapid pace of legislation, there was a decrease in the scrutiny of amendments. The report says that there was a 370 percent increase in the legislation of the National Assembly, several laws were passed without debate, and attendance decreased by 66 percent.
According to the report, the Prime Minister’s attendance was 18 percent throughout the year, the Prime Minister’s attendance in meetings was a record low, and Opposition Leader Omar Ayub attended 62 meetings.
According to the report, there was a delay in the formation of standing committees of the National Assembly. Despite the deadline of April 3 for the formation of committees, the committees were not formed. The National Assembly spent Rs. 37.9 million per member in the year, meaning that the National Assembly meetings cost taxpayers Rs. 37.9 million per member.
According to the review report, the Assembly did not complete 49 percent of the agenda items.
