An FIR was lodged by Vice Executive Bahria Town retired Lt Col Khalilur Rehman in the AabPara Police Station for an extortion case against unknown individuals who are extorting 50 bitcoins, with a cumulative value that approximates 1.5 billion PKR, from Malik Riaz, an important businessman. It is alleged that the suspects threatened Malik Riaz’s family with severe consequences.
The complaint which was filed states that on January 12 Malik Riaz was sent an email containing extortion demands. An unidentified suspect was observed conducting a reconnaissance of Malik Riaz’s daughter’s house in Sector G-6 on January 27.
The Act was registered under the headings 506 ii of the Pakistan Penal Code and 25-D of the Telegraph Act. Which covers crimes related to cryptocurrency in Pakistan, where cases of kidnappings and extortions have been coming up lately.
