Information Secretary of the All Pakistan Traders Association, Khalid Chaudhry, has raised concerns over the Environment Department’s allotment of huts in Islamabad, stating that only the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and District Municipal Administration (DMA) have the authority to do so.

Chaudhry pointed out that despite the demolition of Monal, over 150 huts remain in the Margalla Hills area, all of which were allegedly allotted by the Environment Department of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). He questioned the legality of these allotments, citing a High Court decision that prohibits any department other than the MCI from exercising its powers.

The issue has gained significance in light of the Supreme Court’s recent observations against huts. Chaudhry has called upon Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chairman CDA Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa to investigate the matter and ensure that all powers related to huts allotments are transferred to the DMA.
