Finland has announced that it will close its embassy in Pakistan due to operational and strategic reasons.
In a statement issued by Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was said that Finland has decided to shut down its embassies in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Myanmar.
According to the Finnish Foreign Ministry, Finland’s embassies in Islamabad, Kabul, and Yangon will be closed in 2026.
The statement said that the decision to close the embassies was driven by Finland’s limited trade and economic relations with these countries. Changes in the political situations of these states were also cited among the reasons for the closures.
Due to budget cuts, Finland had previously suspended its diplomatic operations in Pakistan in 2012. The Finnish diplomatic mission in Pakistan was reopened in 2022.
