Pakistan’s newly-established Federal Constitutional Court has delivered its first significant judgment, setting aside a Lahore High Court ruling that had nullified the appointment of the Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University.
The case, filed eight years ago, had remained pending and was never taken up for hearing by the Supreme Court. It has now been decided by the Federal Constitutional Court.
The Lahore High Court had earlier removed Prof. Asad Aslam from the post of Vice Chancellor after a petition filed by Iftikhar Ahmad challenged his appointment.
During the proceedings before the Constitutional Court, no party appeared to argue the case.
The court has stated that if any party believes it is adversely affected by the order, it may file a petition before the Federal Constitutional Court seeking appropriate relief.
