Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has achieved a major milestone with the successful completion and commissioning of the Jhal Magsi Development Project in Balochistan, a step taken in line with the instructions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to ensure fast-track development in the region. This accomplishment not only strengthens the country’s energy security but also demonstrates a strong commitment to uplifting one of the most remote areas of Pakistan through energy production and community support.
The project, which began in February 2024, was completed on an accelerated timeline despite challenging technical and geographical conditions. Today, the field is producing around 14 million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline-quality gas and 45 barrels per day of condensate.

The gas is already being supplied to the national system through a newly constructed 98-kilometer pipeline by Sui Southern Gas Company Limited, ensuring reliable energy availability for consumers. The scope of the development included the installation of modern processing units, power generation facilities, and gathering systems, underscoring the technological and operational effort invested to bring the project online.
The Jhal Magsi field, operated by OGDCL with a 56 percent shareholding alongside Pakistan Oilfields Limited (24 percent) and Government Holdings Private Limited (20 percent), represents a successful model of joint collaboration in Pakistan’s oil and gas sector. By converting to the Marginal Field Gas Pricing Policy under government-approved incentives, the project was able to move forward swiftly, reflecting how policy support can unlock the potential of underdeveloped fields.

Beyond energy development, OGDCL has placed significant focus on the well-being of the local community. The company has introduced impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in Jhal Magsi to bring long-term improvements to education, healthcare, housing, and livelihoods.
A new OGDCL Grammar School is halfway to completion, while a Mother and Child Health Care Facility, being built in partnership with Indus Hospital, is already 60 percent complete. In addition, 84 climate-resilient houses have been handed over to families, fully funded scholarships have been awarded to students at Sukkur IBA, and technical training programs are equipping local youth with skills to secure employment.
Healthcare support has also been prioritized, with two ambulances provided to the district, annual free eye camps held for residents, and ration bags distributed among 800 families. To ensure access to clean drinking water, OGDCL has installed two RO plants and an underground water tank. The company has also extended its support to local culture and sports by sponsoring the Jhal Magsi Desert Rally, showcasing its commitment to preserving traditions while promoting development.

The successful completion of this project stands as a testament to how resource development can go hand in hand with community empowerment. OGDCL’s efforts are helping bridge the development gap in Balochistan, ensuring that the local population directly benefits from national projects. By combining energy production with social uplift, the company has created a blueprint for sustainable development that aligns with the government’s vision of inclusive growth.
